Financial Budgeting
I still have not found a ready-made way to connect one's bank account to self-hosted budgeting software - at least not in the US. In Europe it sounds like it's much easier. The alternative, as I understand, i can export this data manually and import it into
- Firefly III - Popular. Full transaction management, categories & tags, budgets. Supports double-entry bookkeeping. Imports from CSV / OFX etc. Docker images available. Bank sync is often more manual or via third-party connectors (depends on region). Some setup needed. UI can be a bit complex for simple use cases.
- Actual - Local-first personal finance tool based on zero-sum budgeting, supporting synchronization across devices, custom rules, manual transaction importing (from QIF, OFX, and QFX files), and optional automatic synchronization with many banks. Documentation
- Financial Freedom (GitHub) - Designed as an open source alternative to Mint/YNAB. Self-hosted, modern stack. It’s relatively newer / more in development, so features may lag. Also bank integrations may be limited or need custom work.
- Kresus - Personal finance manager. Probably more basic than Firefly III. May require more manual import. Might lack some advanced reporting or budgeting features.
- OpenBudgeteer - Another budgeting app (open source) with “bucket budgeting” style and forecasting. Smaller community. Might lack user-friendly bank synchronization.
- Beancount + Fava
- KMyMoney - Desktop-based, mature, decent functionality. Good for tracking, categorization, reconciliation. Not as web-oriented, less ideal if you want multi-device / cloud / mobile access
