Japan Customs process

Register your trip ahead of time in order to save time going through Customs process. Video about using Visit Japan Web

Registering a trip:

1. Go to Visit Japan Web
2. Register "planned entry/return" ahead of time.
3. Once registered, click on the registered plan, and select Immigration clearance and Customs declaration.
4. Once customs declaration is completed, button saying Generate QR Code will be enabled.
5. This QR code can be supplied to the customs officer.

Two options for customs:

1. Newer integrated kiosk: Combines immigration and customs declaration into one process (~20 min)
2. Customs officer - See a Customs human if:
   • Anyone entering with you is under 53 inches tall
   • For a temporary visitor stamp (necessary for:
     • any type of JR Pass
     • any tax-free shopping
     • to rent a car
